The Feminist Media

Women in today's media have always been  under the impression of having the perfect body image. I found it interested to find an alternative media that promotes all body types, shapes and sizes. AdiosBarbie.com is  website that is decaded to help women be satisfy for who they are.Their main focus is to go against the media idea of  “size zero is beautiful” obsessions of pop culture (http://www.thebeautyprescription.com).

"We say adios to narrow beauty & identity and hello to frank talk about race, class, age, ability, gender, sexual orientation, size and how are multiple identities shape the way we feel in our bodies and in the world." (AdiosBarbie.com)

Adios Barbie is a blog design website that is ran by 12 individuals of different cultural backgound (http://www.adiosbarbie.com/about/our-team/). It was founded by Ophira Edut and Pia Guerrero in 1998. These two women have also written a book called  Body Outlaws, an anthology of stories by multicultural women and men about the journey to love their bodies. Edut and Guerro  goal is to" raise awareness around  young people's over-identification with rigidly defined gender roles and beauty standards as portrayed in the media- proven to be a major cause of low self-esteem and consequently negative health and educational outcomes in girls and boys."
